Penile Doppler Ultrasound

A Penile Doppler Ultrasound is a specialist imaging test that assesses blood flow within the penile arteries. It is the gold-standard investigation for identifying the vascular cause of erectile dysfunction (ED). The test involves a small injection of a vasodilating agent — prostaglandin — into the base of the penis to stimulate an erection, followed by Doppler ultrasound imaging to measure arterial inflow and venous outflow in real time. Unlike a standard ultrasound performed by a radiographer, this test is carried out by Mr Ollandini himself, ensuring that the imaging is interpreted alongside your full clinical history at the time of the procedure.

Scrotal Ultrasound

A scrotal ultrasound is a painless, non-invasive imaging test that uses high-frequency sound waves to examine the testes, epididymis and surrounding scrotal structures. It is the first-line investigation for any testicular lump, scrotal pain, swelling, or suspected varicocele. No radiation is involved. The scan typically takes around 15–20 minutes and provides detailed, real-time images that can distinguish between different types of pathology with a high degree of accuracy.

Semen Analysis

Semen analysis is the cornerstone investigation for male fertility. It assesses sperm count (concentration), motility (movement), morphology (shape), and volume. A single abnormal result does not mean infertility — semen parameters vary naturally between samples, and a repeat test is often needed before drawing any conclusions. Mr Ollandini interprets results in the context of the full clinical picture, including your history, lifestyle, and any relevant investigations already undertaken.

Blood Tests in Urology

Several blood tests are routinely used in urological assessment. These are typically arranged before or alongside imaging, and results are always interpreted in clinical context — not in isolation. A raised or abnormal value is a starting point for investigation, not a diagnosis in itself.

Urine Tests

Urine tests are simple, non-invasive, and provide important diagnostic information. They are often the first investigation requested for urinary symptoms, haematuria, or suspected infection — and they can guide the need for further, more detailed investigations.
